This journal entry describes my journey to student teaching. I am starting from my start as an education major until now. I am outlining the people that were angels in my path that allowed me to stay strong and who encouraged me to keep the fight and hold on tight. In this journal the reader will also understand what made me change my mind from Biology to Education.

My journey started in June of 2003. I came to the education department as a Biology major. In that major the teachers did not care about you as a student just as a number that could help them look good. Also as a Biology major there was a lack of money. All of these issues only helped me change my mind on a future major. I decided after consulting with my mother we both decided that Education was the best choice for me since it met all of my needs and was also something that I was extremely passionate about.

My journey to student teaching has been long and worth the wait. I have been on this student teaching journey for two or more semesters. Once I became and education major that to me was the best part of my college years. I was able to get a scholarship to pay for college which was great because it took a major burden off my shoulders. In this department the staff actually cared that you passed and you seemed to be important to them because you were a reflection on not only yourself, but the entire department as well. Once I started the classes for exceptional education. I began to make better grades which ensured that I continue being blessed with my scholarship.

Once I became an Exceptional Education major I was assigned an advisor. Let every other major I felt that an advisor would not be a guider, but rather a dictator. I encountered Dr. Ledora Overby Harris as my advisor. She was indeed a blessing. She accepted me as one of her own and made sure that I had all knowledge that was needed to complete my education.

Dr. Harris also became one of my instructors. In class she always demanded above what she knew we could do. She made sure she reminded us of all tests and other important information that may not have otherwise been available to me. I guessed God decided she needed some help guiding students so he sent Dr. Sophia Marshall.

Dr. Marshall was a lot like Dr. Harris with guidance but she would give you the pros and cons of your situation without deciding for you. The end decision that you came up with would always be yours with Dr. Marshall. Dr. Marshall also wanted to make sure that we stayed on top of all new developments in not only the education department but Tougaloo as well.

My journey has been one paved with obstacles that others have been placed in my way. However my faith has allowed me to continue to come out on top everytime. I live by “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” I am continuing to push forward with all endeavors without stressing about anything.

All of the obstacles that have been placed in my way have only encouraged me to continue on my journey to becoming the best teacher that I can be. I know that all of these things will help me in the future they have prepared me to be strong. They have taught me to not trust people as far as I can throw them. This information has prepared me for the things that I may face in the real world at a school where the teachers may not be so welcoming to a new teacher. I am sure that the angels will continue to watch over me and make sure that wherever I am, I am covered in the blood and will be just fine.
