MCT2 review is all week for grades three through five. Alternate assessments are being done on two fourth graders and two third graders. The storm came in and cancelled all activities for the evening since we spent most of our time in the hallway.

April 7, 2008

No school because of the storm and more than half of the city was without power. Some schools also did not have lights and needed repairs to be completed on the schools.

April 8, 2008

The students in graded three through five took the MCT2 Practice test. The students who are unable to take the MCT2 had to complete alternate assessment work samples.

April 14, 2008

Monday was a good day. The second graders had to test because they did not receive their assessments on time. We already had them for an hour before they received their assessments and by that time it was time for another grade level to come in.

April 15, 2008

My child had an appointment today with the doctor for his shots. By the time I was finished my teacher informed me not to come because I would only be there for an hour and a half. I took this time to make sure that my assignments were up to date and on the website.

April 16, 2008

We had a change in schedule. The fourth grade teachers decided they wanted the exceptional education students to be taught in the exceptional education classroom instead of being in the inclusion setting. So Wednesday was a little off balance getting used to the fact that the schedule has increased the amount of time they spend in the classroom and out of the inclusion setting.

April 17, 2008

Thursday was much better. The schedule was now comfortable for the students and the teachers. We were now familiar with the schedule and what activities would be completed during the allotted time slots.

April 18, 2008

Friday was another uneasy day. The teachers realized that they had made a mistake. On Fridays the students used to stay until 11:00, but according to the new schedule they made the students would leave at 9:30. So they had to come up with another plan. The teacher that was present decided to leave the decision up to me and I decided that if I had extra time that I would go back and get them so that they could finish their assessment.

April 21, 2008

Monday began another week on the countdown for completion. Now the entire school has begun to celebrate the closeness of no school. The best thing about this time of the year is that the students are now under strict guidelines by the administrators and the teachers have their full support. It is much better when you know that you can count on them to get through to those who don’t care and are bothering others who are trying to do well and learn. Monday was much smoother and passed very quickly. Grades third and above completed the MCT2 Practice Assessments, we completed alternate assessment activities, and the other students came for help with their homework.

April 22, 2008

Tuesday was a slow day. The students seemed to be in the fighting mood this morning. One of the fourth grade teachers returned from her mini-vacation. Students from her class seemed to be worse today than ever before. We had a fight this morning between two students and one of them is never in any trouble besides talking. Then after that we had to do our morning rounds and make sure the students were aware of how much work we needed them to complete and how important it was that they do better on the MCT2 Assessment in May.

April 23, 2008

Wednesday was a lot worse than the beginning of the week. The students seemed to think that school was out and they were just coming to be fed and socialize with their friends. We had a lot more discipline reports in the office and the students found out that they are not rewarded for their inappropriate behavior. Our pizza day was canceled and the In School Suspension classroom was full of students with more waiting.

April 24, 2008

We started Thursday as we do any other day. The motivational song is intended to get the students motivated about learning, but it seems that it makes them behave as if they are in the club. The students are unable to begin focusing after they are allowed to dance during the song for about seven minutes. It usually takes another thirty minutes to get the students to settle back down and get to work. By the end of the day the students and the teachers were informed that students sent to the office from now on would not participate in Field Day.

April 25, 2008

The announcement in regards to Field Day seemed to matter more to the students than the pizza day. We only had two discipline reports in the office and the students seemed to be more focused on the practice tests. We are now starting on IEPs in the classroom which leaves only a short period of time to deal with discipline problems. Today we made sure the students understood that we were calling parents before we sent them to office so that they may have a chance to enjoy a little fun for all the hard work they have been putting in.
