March Daily Logs

March 3, 2008

I was very anxious this month with the holiday approaching. The holiday would also signify that the semester was almost finished. When I worked with the students today, I noticed a slight change in their behavior. They also seemed to be more anxious and talkative than before. Maybe they were ready to have a break from school too. Anyhow, we had to continue with our assignments with the test prep materials.

March 4, 2008

Tuesday was even better than Monday. The students were more concentrated on learning and bouncing back to level five. They were even more excited when they discovered that the music teacher made a motivational song that the students would sing everyday before they got started on their lessons.

March 5, 2008

Hump day is the best day of the week. We have nine more days and the students are counting down. We have been focusing on test prep to prepare for the practice test and the real MCT2 in May. We are starting to review the skills for the week so that the students can have the materials fresh on their minds by Friday.

March 6, 2008

Thursday we continue to review our skills and assignments in order to get better test results for Friday. The best thing is to take our time with the review and make sure that we are very detailed in our sample questions for the students. If we ask the students similar questions as to the ones on the test then they will more than likely be able to recall the skills that allowed them to answer the questions correctly in the review.

March 7, 2008

Friday also known as test day usually last all day. It is very important that we allow the students to concentrate and really think about their answers. We are not concerned with time, but more correct answers or comprehension of the skills. Those who were not finished by lunchtime were allowed to come back and finish from 12:30 to 2:00. Many students finish between these times, however we have some who have to come back on Monday mornings to wrap up.

March 10, 2008

The students taking the alternate assessment test are being tested in the classroom. Some of them are kept in inclusion, but allowed or asked to complete the alternate assessment work samples that have to be turned in to the state department. In order to ensure that our students complete their assignments without becoming a disturbance they are usually allowed to be in groups with one another if they are in the same class.

March 11, 2008

I was very happy today and tried to make sure that I was not just a teacher but allowed them to trust me and share their experiences both good and bad. I found that the students had a lot of information that they wanted to share with someone just to have someone to listen to them and understand how they were feeling about certain situations that were taking place in their life and ones in which they could not control.

March 12, 2008

Wednesday was easier. It was better for the students and the teachers. The students were anxious for the weekend and the break to begin. We are continuing our review of the test items that will be found on the MCT2 test.

I was absent on Thursday because my child was ill and could not be taken to the daycare for two to three days.

March 25, 2008

Tuesday the students were very excited to share stories of their break. Once we were able to get them to settle down and get back in the swing of things the morning was over. We spent the afternoon session making sure we reviewed the skills listed on the lesson plans so that they could pass their assessment on Friday. We are now focusing on the MCT2 since we have a practice test coming up in April.
                                                            March 26, 2008

MCT2 practice test prep items are reviewed with the students that will be taking the MCT2 test. The students completing alternate assessments will continue to work with Mrs. Sargent. The second grade students will be brought in to complete any assignments that they may not have finished in class or need assistance with.

March 28, 2008

Friday was of course test day. The students have really still been in break mode and have not realized that is still time to work and get down to business. Testing was harder because the students are not realizing how important these tests are in that they allow teachers to understand what skills need to be retaught in order for them to pass the MCT2.
