Behavior Management Log

 Week 1 (January 28, 2008- February 1, 2008)

Rules

Be quiet

Remain in your seat

Work on assigned task

Raise your hand

January 28, 2008

Today I introduced the rules and consequences to the students. They continued to be very talkative and antsy during the entire introduction. They seemed as if they had never been made to follow rules or that the rules that had been established did not apply to them. I observed the students to see what rules needed to be focused on and the students maybe given an incentive for.

January 29, 2008

I concluded that all of the rules need to be focused on. For some it may be a review and others may have a hard time adjusting rules and regulations. After reviewing the rules again, I chose to focus on remain in your seat. Again as I saw yesterday, the students seen anxious and antsy to see if I will hold them accountable for their actions. However, after making an example out of a student and again reviewing the consequences the students seemed to jump right back on track.

January 30, 2008

Wednesday we focused on working on assigned task. Dionne and Debra had a hard time staying on task. These students require one-on-one instruction. The other students seemed to be eager to finish one assignment and move to another.

January 31, 2008

Thursday we focused on raising your hand. Most of the students grasped the concept. Some still had a hard time raising their hands without noises such as pick me and ooh. There were one or two students that would forget to raise their hand before speaking. There were some students that would raise their hand before a question was even asked to make sure they were first and not overlooked. After coaching and ignoring those who did not raise their hand, the students seemed to be on target and adjust quickly.

February 1, 2008

Fridays are my assessment days. I do not participate in any coaching activities. I sit back and see how the students act throughout the day. At the end of Friday we reflect back on the rules and consequences that were focused on and decide what new ways we can achieve our goals.

Week 2 (February 4, 2008- February 8, 2008)

Rules

Walk in the hall

Walk in a line

Walk on the right

Walk quietly

February 4, 2008

This week may be hard for some students. We are not in school on Thursday and Friday therefore Wednesday is going to be my assessment day. Monday we are focusing on walking in a straight line in the hallway. We start out lining up in the classroom and I ask the students to get in a line. I have several friends that want to walk beside each other rather than behind one another. When we arrive to our destination, I inform the students that we must return to the classroom and begin again. I inform them again that I want a straight line in the hallway and it needs to be better next time. After several times of repeating the action, everybody walked in a straight line in the hallway.

February 5, 2008

Tuesday we are focusing on walking on the right side of the hallway and walking quietly. In order to ensure that the students try to master these rules we are going to walk to and from destinations with their finger over their mouth. The students showed me on Monday they could walk in the hall but not as quiet as they needed to be. After we traveled to the lunchroom and returned to the classroom, they seemed to understand that quietness is required not asked.

February 6, 2008

Wednesday was my assessment day this week. Thursday and Friday we are out of school but the rules and regulations need to be covered. Thursday we have Parent Teacher Conference and Friday we have Professional Development. I observed that the students were able to perform the tasks that were asked of them with little coaching.

February 7, 2008

Parent Teacher Conference

February 8, 2008

Professional Development

Week 3 (February 11, 2008- February 15, 2008)

Rules

Be quiet in the cafeteria line

Walk to your table

Talk quietly

Remain seated

 February 11, 2008

Today we are focusing on staying quiet in the cafeteria line. The students are being quiet because any talking and they have to put their index finger back in front of their mouth. They don’t want to be embarrassed so we are not having any trouble out of them with talking. They seem to understand if you talk out of turn or without permission you will suffer consequences.

February 12, 2008

Tuesday our focus is on walking to the table. Sometimes students have to be split up between two sides hence they feel the need to race their friends to the table. They think once they are in the cafeteria certain rules do not apply. They have found out that they are indeed wrong and now understand why and how we walk to the table. I explained to them that if they were to bump into a student that was walking to the table or going to put their tray up that they would have to give that student their food if they had not already eaten. Once I made an example of two or three students and they were hungry all day, we no longer had that problem.

February 13, 2008

Wednesday we are focusing on talking quietly at the table. When the students get too loud they are reminded to calm down by me waving a yellow light in the air. This yellow light lets them know that they are too loud and need to calm down. The next step is a red light. Once I wave the red light nobody is allowed to talk at all. If you are caught talking then you will change your light once we are back in the classroom. If you get a red light then you are not allowed to participate in Friday Fun. The students responded well to the yellow and red light. Of course you will always have one student try you and seem like the class clown and I try to always make a wonderful example out of him or her.

February 14, 2008

Thursday I am focusing on the students remaining seated in the cafeteria. I am asking the students to make sure that they remain seated to maintain order in the cafeteria. If everyone is up and running around then it will be chaotic and disorderly. If someone does get up out of their seat then they are asked to put their tray in the window and sit behind the class at another table.

February 15, 2008

Fridays are assessment day. I watch the students to see if they can perform the duties that are asked of them without any help. This week it seemed to go okay except for the talking quietly in the classroom. After reflection on the rules and regulations, the students were able to understand why they received the consequences that they did.

Week 4 (February 18, 2008- February 22, 2008)

Rules

Take part in some activity

Take turns

Be friendly

Line up when it is time

February 18, 2008

Monday we are taking part in some activity. If we are outside and have different activities all students need to be participating in something. Nobody needs to wandering around and bothering other students. All students must be engaged in something. All students have understood this and realized that they cannot be standing idle and must be involved because people learn from anything.

February 19, 2008

Tuesday I am asking the students to take turns. Be cooperative and understanding in that other people want to do want you are doing for the reasons you wanted to do it. There may be something that you are interested in that others have and you would want them to allow you to do so. Students were able to share because I involved a time clock. Everyone had five to seven minutes doing an activity. Once the timer sounded it was time to move clockwise to the next activity. This showed them that sharing is not so bad because you a reintroduced to other things that may be better than the one before.

February 20, 2008

Wednesday we have to double up again since I have a meeting on Thursday. So today we focused on being friendly and lining up when it is time. I chose to take the last ten minutes of the class to clean up and wind down. In this time students are allowed to talk about their experiences with the other students and make sure that the activity they were using is packaged up and ready to go. In this time students must make sure that they are not pushing in the line or making fun of the other students. Students must make sure they line up when it is time. Within the last ten minutes, students should be able to find themselves in a line.

February 21, 2008

Thursday I have a meeting on Extended School Year Services by Jackson Public Schools.

February 22, 2008

Friday I assessed the students when we went outside and they were fine until we had to get in line. They forgot that you have to be quiet in line and walk on the right side of the hallway. I reminded the students after lunch of their shortcomings and decided that this may need more reinforcement. Maybe I should not allow them to converse and get in line at the same time. Somehow I believe this is more than they are able to handle.

Week 5 (February 25, 2008-February 29, 2008)

Rules

Finish one task

Meet the criteria

February 25, 2008

We only have two rules this week. Finish one task and meet the criteria. The most important thing is that the students finish the classwork that they are assigned. I am asking the students to always check their work without just turning it in. Students have not been checking their work and just because I ask those who have finished to turn in their assignment, I have received unfinished assignments. To get their attention we are beginning to exchange papers and have their peers see the grades they are receiving because they refuse to go back and check work.

February 26, 2008

The students have to make sure they meet the criteria. They have to complete all assignments as they are asked of them. Any and all work should be submitted with the proper heading. Until this is done papers that are received with the incorrect heading will be returned, redone and resubmitted.

February 27, 2008

The students are assessed on meeting the criteria and finishing the task at hand. They seemed to have managed meeting the criteria, if I could only convince them that checking behind yourself is not a waste of time. These things are beneficial to them but by the end of next week they will see how important it is.

February 28, 2008

End of the month Pizza Day.

February 29, 2008

Friday Fun is for all students that I feel have mastered 75% of the rules and tried to fix the situation when they broke a rule.

Week 6 (March 3, 2008- March 7, 2008)
