“The Foundation of Every State is Its Youth.” – Diogenes Laertius

Summary:

This is a quote by Diogenes Laertius. He was a biographer of ancient Greek philosophers. He was one of the most important secondary sources of knowledge in the field. All of his quotes seem to be based on experiences he encountered during his time.

Position:

I agree with the quote. Education is essential in everything that you do. As young people we tend to get caught up in the material world and forget how powerful an education is. Unlike all the fame, fortune, jewelry, and friends, an education is something that last forever. Education cannot be taken from you. It is always with you but it is up to you if you use it or not.  The foundation of every state is its youth. The youth are the ones that continue what has already been started. If these individuals choose not to educate themselves then the world, not just the state, is in a lot of trouble. When individuals are educated and know what they are doing and what they are talking about they are more likely to succeed and continue to hold on to whatever they have. Uneducated people have not control over what happens to them because they do not know any better. Education is a sword and shield to people who want to be pushovers, confusers, and manipulators. Once people realize that you are educated they take you more serious and hold your word to another standard than those who are not educated.
